It all started in 1985 when we went shopping for a boat and bought a marina instead. We only just now have bought the boat!!!

Our first year actually began in April of 1986 and so this year we are celebrating our 20th anniversary here at the Schuyler Yacht Basin. It has been 20 years of life lessons - a lot of hard work, ups and downs in business, joys, sorrows, friendships made, and friends lost to us. It all sounds like the material for a book and Judy keeps threatening to write one!! The title will be “ White Caps On The Lawn”. When we first moved in the water flooded up our front lawn toward the house (as it always does and always will), we had a terrible thunderstorm that sent the waves rocking and rolling and produced those white caps that we rarely see up this far on the Hudson or on the Canal. We panicked, cursed the heavens, and ran about securing docks, picnic tables, and such. We woke up the next day and the sun was shining, the water was receding, and any notion of the activities of the day before was not to be believed. That was when we learned the most important lesson that the Hudson River/Champlain Canal, or any body of water, has to offer. Each day is new, each day is different, and each day brings us new people and their stories. An Objibwa Proverb says “Sometimes I go about in pity for myself and all the while a great wind carries me across the sky”, and for us, across the water.
